In a manner of speaking
When a character’s accent is meaningful or when a scene or line of dialogue hinges on how a character speaks, manner of speech needs to be indicated in the closed captions.

His book, Reading Sounds: Closed-Captioned Media and Popular Culture, won the 2017 award for best book in technical or scientific communication from the Conference on College Composition and Communication (CCCC). He teaches technical writing, web accessibility, disability studies, sound studies, and AI literacy.
